The military had a problem – and it was costing soldiers their lives: In order to rotate their turrets on Up-Armored HMMWVs, MRAPs and MATVs, gunners had to suspend firing, increasing their vulnerability to attack. In response to the challenge, NPC Robotics designed, prototyped and produced the Battery Powered Motorized Traversing Unit, or BPMTU, an electromechanical drive system retrofitted into existing vehicles and designed into new ones.
